what 800 weddings taught me
When you've spent nearly two decades immersed in weddings, something unexpected happens.
You stop seeing only the photographs.
You begin to notice everything else.
You learn that the most meaningful moments rarely happen on a timeline. They're found in the quiet exchange between a father and daughter before the ceremony. The deep breath a bride takes before the doors open. The way a grandmother reaches for her partner's hand during the vows. The laughter that fills a room when no one realizes anyone is watching.
You also begin to recognize what makes a wedding feel effortless—and what quietly pulls couples away from being present. I've learned when to gently step in, when to step back, and how thoughtful planning creates the freedom for genuine moments to unfold.
Looking back, I realize I wasn't just becoming a better photographer.
I was becoming a better guide.

From my very first meeting over the phone with Rachel, I knew without a doubt that Thirteenth Moon was who I wanted to photograph my wedding. With over a year to plan after booking, I was able to easily keep in contact with Rachel at all times, which was an extreme blessing and so convenient! She was able to give ideas and answer all of the quirky questions I threw at her. We were so lucky to be able to have both Rachel and January to photograph our wedding. They were both so enthusiastic and encouraging, even when it seemed like we were running out of time to capture those 'special' moments.
